Although Chihuahuas should all fit into a certain *standard , they come in all colors and shapes and sizes and most of the ones We've seen on Tv and walking in the street are above the standard size. The Taco bell dog is above standard size for example and of a quality that makes most chihuahua show people and real breeders cringe(sorry). However some people like that look., Im not one of them .They come in slender deertype to the shorter stockier Cobby type and alot in between , All of these can fit within the breed standard , however if you were looking to show a chihuahua some traits are more desireable than others. This too is another reason people have come up with terms like teacup and toy. In my experience over 27 years, people all have thier own idea of what is cute and what they admire in the breed, some have more apple shaped heads with bulging eyes while others have a more americanized head with a longer face, appealling to a different group of people,
When looking for a Chihuahua ,it is wise to look at the parents or to let the breeder know your likes and dislikes, and the size range that best suits your family , kids pets etc, When inquiring about my pups I like to hear about your kids ,home (yard etc) and work schedule , and what your preferences are in the breed,it helps me to help you make the right choice for you so that the pup you take home looks the way you want it to as an adult and so that i can determine both by the maturity of the pup and # of vaccinations it has had ,when its best time to go home is .
Also please know that all my dogs have wonderful very loving temperments , and none are snappy or mean ,I will not breed a nasty dog, only sweet lovable specimens .Chihuahuas are thought of by so many as nasty ,yappy and snappy This is could not be further from the truth ,Speaking of my own dogs, they are sweet natured lovable , smart and funny , Never ever had a temperment complaint about any of my dogs, although each has its own character traits , generally what youll get is a wonderful little companion who will add soo much to your life,

I am breeding Chihuahuas ,first because I love them, and second, because over the years I have had many people waiting for pups and so we have expanded our program,. There is a shortage of well informed ,reputable breeders, who breed carefully and conscientiously, There are a few Ive seen who state quality not quantity, and that is good to preserve the standard of the breed and the beautiful traits of the Chihuahua .However, there are so many people who love this breed and the world is so crowded in so many places, there isnt enough room to own large dogs nor to breed small ones on the east coast . You need room to allow them to run and play and be dogs, if you have a conscience about your breeding. I have been lucky to be able to provide healthy wonderful pet chihuahuas , bred and cared for in the right way , with thier happiness health and well being always first to me, as I do love my dogs a great deal. If the show breeders only produce 6 pups a year, where are you to get a nice sound quality pup, Thats why my family is dedicated to this breed . No vacations , 24/7 , in sickness and in health(our sickness haha) , we are here to make sure that people can own this wonderful breed and enjoy them as much as we do,. We hope to provide a service to people who want to buy homeraised pups who have not been skimped on ,and who will be a loving part of the family for many years to come, here always to help you in any way we can with training health or any other questions you may have throughout the life of your pup through emails answered usually daily
. We also are very opposed to the cruel treatment of dogs of anykind in puppy mills , who are provided with no love , incorrect nutrition, no mental stimulation kept in makeshift cages and not allowed to be dogs. My mother dogs, love their babies and enjoy the job they do rearing them , but they are fed and cared for and allowed to play, and they are vaccinated, given heartworm meds and provided with excellent vet care when needed . We cook them meats all the time buy a fortunes worth of ricota cheese and Eukanuba puppy food (fed to our adults to keep them in maximun health ,)and they get their own baked hams and turkeys on holidays . not kept in cages , sleep on comfortable dogbeds and enjoy treats , toys and human attention, and most importantly love.
Please do not Purchase pups from petstores as they all come from Mills and for every one pup you buy ,another has to suffer .If no one buys from MIlls they will move onto some other way of making money that doesnt involve animal suffering, if you want to protest that Do not buy from these places ,No Reputable breeder sells to petstores, Petstores do not get quality pups , they get whatever they can for the cheapest price and sell very high , You take a great chance of losing your pup and your money .Please pass on them so their moms dont suffer anymore and beware many mills are disguised as ma and pop websites ,please be aware of the suffering that goes on ,it is unimaginable , please dont support it so that it continues, if you buy the pups they will breed more an there will always be chihuahuas in chicken wire cages, unloved and uncared for..

A GLIMPSE INTO OUR FORBIDDEN NURSERY ............
As you may know we dont ever let the public into our nursery , We do this to protect our pups fom people who Go looking elsewhere before coming here, who may spread viruses to our pups, Such as parvo,
I understand that people may think a breeder who doesnt let you in is hiding something, which may be true in some cases, We however, do everything for our pups the best way possible, We are inspected by the Dept of Agriculture and passed with a 100%perfect score, (details of which ,can be seen at the time of purchase)We do not skimp on anything ,everything with our pups Is kept as clean as possible and they are fed only the best ,the mothers are kept in an almost sterile condition while they nurse the babies, for the first few weeks . We dont allow the public inside because we know by experience that that is the best way to protect both our pups and our clients, we have never sold one who went home and died ever. This is because we dont do what people think is best , We do what we know is best for our pups .
Most of my pups are born in the very room they go home from , The "garage " family type room of my house, It is not part of our main house, (we have a huge house,,)This is where we keep our pregnant girls who are due within about three weeks, She is watched over by me and sleeps with me, When we know the time is near, She will be given a basket , a laundry basket full of towels and when she whelps I am here with her This is where i spend most of my time, and keep close eye over my pregnant moms, you most likely will meet one when you come, This is where I sit when they are born , most right in my lap in a basket, Usually Mike asists me with clamps thread, iodine, towels and hot water bottles if needed, (Matt doesnt like the birth process much , but he helps me with all other aspects of this )MAtt finds birth to be yucky,,, sometimes it is but most times its fascinating, everybirth for me, is exciting many times i can remember a pup or something about it when it was born , like the way i immedialty assess it in my mind, for health , quality size color and cuteness, they are all cute in their own way, and all very special ,
, She stays there for a few days so i can watch carefullly over her and her babies until they are all very stable , and then they are moved to my kennel bank seen below, where moms are let out for excercise and a break from the babies, She is safest this way and it is a great way to moniter the progress and check on both mom and babies several times daily, high priority or pups who are more delicate are placed in the top center cage for careful inspection,or more hands on care,
when moms are let out into the yard or the other dog room, the pups are "eyeballed" as we call it,(checked on and food and water is checked and every pup is looked at several times daily at routine times,) to be sure every one is doing well. Anyone who is lagging is kept with me in a basket until it catches up again, This is the only time any of my dogs are ever caged , but it is the safest and best way to moniter the pups who are still on mom,
Next step is the babies are seperated into weaning pens and groups to be socialized, with pups of similar age and size, the pups in the pen are allowed visits from mom and are fed Eukanuba smallbreed , ricotta yogurt and canned pedigree and alpo, like a buffet everyday,
they also receive this while in the bank with mom . prior to full weaning, Some pups are more babyish and will do sometime in the weany pen and then spend the night in the bank with mom so as not to stress them out, right now eves litle girl is one like this, a true mommies girl.
The pups are carefully vaccinated from 21 days of age, to protect them and train the body to be immune especially to parvovirus . we worm them on a regular basis and treat them with metronidazole and sulfer .We do this at 2 week intervals, The pups are then moved to the final pen which is half of a huge room , there they can run full throttle and play and socialize while they await thier new home , if it is nice out they are put out on the back porch to run and get a little sunshine, . We do what is best for our pups , we skimp on nothing, ever,
this is where the moms stay with babies for the nursing period, the room is tropically warm and we keep it very clean and they eat only the best,
We keep wee wee pads under each mom in case th ebabies decide to make and we wash down the inside of each daily,
a squirt of cleaner and some papertowles keeps it very clean and occasionally we take it outsde and steamclean it after hosing it down , it is fiberglass, and stainles steel. wE HAVE THRE LARGE ROOMS WHERE OUR DOGS LIVE iN THEIR WN WING OF THE HOUSE, , tHEY HAVE SOLARIUM FLOORING ,AIRCONDITIONING IN SUMMER AND THE SAME HEAT WE HAVE THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE PLUS ELECTIC OIL RADIATORS IN THE BABY ROOMS FOR EXTRA HEAT AN INSURANCE THERE WILL BE NO CHILLS . tHEY HAVE PLANTS AND LITTLE DOG HOUSES , TREATS , TOYS AND RUN OF OUR YARD,
WHICH IS PEA GRAVELED FOR EASY CLEANING , AND IS A BEAUTIFUL NATURAL WONDERFUL PLACE TO BE, THEY RUN AND PLAY AND CHASE EACHOTHER AS DOGS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO DO,
THEY ENJOY THE YARD SO MUCH AND I ENJOY WATCHING THEM .
Whats on top ?....: usually we have a box of wee wee pads, some antibiotics.. papertowels , babyfood , cleaners hot water bottles and rawhide sticks which we give to the pups to play with , as well as nutrical and other things we may need for these babies, pictured above are Eve,becky , chiquita on top row
middle row: twinkle scarlett and
maggie 2 (the second)named after our beloved girl maggie .
botom is splash , watch for these babies soon, notice the blue tape on scarletts cage , we do this because some of the newborns are so tiny they can fit right between the bars, We have a wonderful group of babies coming up,
the pens below are on the opposite side of the room, A large aviary with some finches given to me by my mom is opposite the kennel bank (pictured above) the moms can watch the birds, we also keep a radio playing low inside the room, after weaning they move to the first pens, we call them the "weanie pens " These pens are small for a reason, the pups feel more secure and cannot go off on their own an get upset or lay down and chill,In this way bedding onone side paper on the other in fact the whole pen is papered, So they are forced to go on it, this creates the habit needed to papertrain , as they grow so does the area they get, and finally when they reach the new home this same idea is carried on (see our care page) until finally they are allowed free roam of your house and wil alwys return to the paper, We advise you not to listen to dog trainers out there who are not as experienced as we are specificaly with this breed and PLEASE do not put them in small boxlike crates, it will not bring the desired result , please use the trainig method we supply on the care page to have a perfectly trained polite additon to your family .
They are moved from right to left as the grow in the pens we have set up within these rooms in order of size, , and then into the second room where they have a huge pen and start the papertraining by sectioning the "bathroom area away from the rest of the pen, it works great and our pups usually are perfectly papertrained when they go home, as long as our methods are followed, Weanie pen one forces the pup to make on the paper, they dont want to make on the bedding they lay on, pen 2 is more area , but pen three is half a huge room or more and they have alot of social interaction, with other pups as well as some of my other dogs, . We have yet a third room for moms on break and young adults who are let out in regular intervals into the backyard to play and relieve them selves,We also keep the pregnant moms in the family room with us for extra care and special attention,
if our family needs togo out(as a group such as out to dinner) every pup is checked prior and after. We "eyeball them " all day llong and usualy there is always someone home to moniter them , recently, i had a minor surgical heart procedure ,I called home as soon as i woke up from anesthesia , .. while my son Mike eyeballed the pups and gave me a report over the phone, i directed him from my cot in the hospital as to what i wanted done , Mike 19 ,.. I would consider an expert, even more than most breeders out there as he has been hands on with the pups since he was an armful himself and has learned every aspect of care , he is my right hand man , he is now 19 and He could easily write a book on chihuahuas and the care , not basic care , but a deep knowledge of all apsects of not just the physical care needed but also the training , rearing , vaccination, nutrition and biological health care in every regard, His interest and help is immeasurable, When my mom was So sick last year before i lost her,if i were in the city at the hospital with her( i went everyday for over 1 year ) and it took with travel and visit over 6 hours a day, Mike would deliver my pups with me on the phone guiding him,
My other son Matt 19 ( these two are my only kids) ,Well he is not into the birth or so much the scientific aspects of this, , but he does much (most of the hard labor involved ) We work hard as a team, Chihuahuas are our only breed, (well we have a 20 year old pekingnese named BOBO and a doberman we adopted a few yars back named lulu , she is our gaurd dog,
Your pups are in very good hands, We Do not skimp on anything, our dogs have turkeys( we cook them on holidays). Hey it isnt fair they smell it, So they all get a bellyful I enjoy that so much..watching them enjoy it, We will be cooking at least 4 this thanksgivng,, we have two kitchens one in the family room where you come to buy your dog, and the other in the main house, , of coure they dont get the trimmings but dont tell them that,
I can say ,..our lives revolve around these Chihuahuas , its Alot of work ,, but then what could be any better, We meet wonderfu; people and make wonderful lifelong friends in our clients, I am often asked if im sad when they go home and they ansswer to that is simple,, NO im not, i may miss them but we have done our job,, and there is nothing more rewarding then watching these little guys go off toa loving family and hearing reports of their progress . and i would not release them to anyone i didnt trust, the care with , and do,,,, once in a while... have to refuse sale , to unsuitable homes,
I feel lucky to have this job to bring so much happinesss to the pups and families they go to, and take the process very seriously, with my experience (30 years breeding wonderful pet chihuahuas) , I know you will get a wonderful healthy pup who is backed by my knowledge and guarantee, and i try to match the perfect pup with the perfect famly,, So the answer to the question of me being sad when they finally leave is no In fact it is the opposite . It is so rewarding and satisfyng to see them go off (most a bit nervous with new people) but within a day or so i hear back that the pup has relaxed and now feels at home, and the little "seed" we nurtured so carefully has been planted where it will thrive and bring and recieve many many years of love and happiness, to alot of people, How lucky are we to do that, ? I wil continue to breed them as long as my health allows and will always keep in touch with prior clients as i offer my experience and advice in any aspect of care , for the life of your pup.
MS Kat reads an interesting artcle while Houdini looks into one of the doghouses, with the adult male for sale on the adult adoption page this is the far corner of the largest play pen it is the deignated "bathroom area, " and is the first step in training the pups as it is sort of seperate from the rest of the playyard,'

Spay or neuter your dog if you dont plan to selectivly breed and if you dont know what your doing , Please dont breed your female, You can easily kill her ,I strongly discourage any one time breeders,There are so many things to know,,it is not easy , if its done right it will require alot of work , time and knowledge, very very easy to loose your female if you dont know what you are doing not to mention your pups
If a problem arises and there is no proffesional on hand if anyone ever needs whelping help in an emergency please dont hesitate to email me even i have had trouble on rare occasions and needed veterinary assistance and even then ,as you can see on my nursery page, , heartbreaking things can happen.
