-Plain live culture Vanilla lowfat yogurt (room temp)

-meats eggs(just a little egg ,never raw ) and cheeses
Ingredients for a cake ? No, ingredients for a healthy puppy.Chihuahuas and most other smallbreed puppies have very fast metabolisms.Much like the hummingbird, the energy used up is very high and needs to be fueled by keeping the sugar levels up.For this reason , please follow my feeding instructions carefully so your puppy doesnt become HYPOGLYCEMIC..
Weve been raising chihuahuas for 29 years and we find the best way to feed and care for your new puppy is as follows:
MAKE THE PUPPY FEEL SECURE
1 Remember , when you first bring your new puppy home it will be a little scared .It will feel a little lost.It hasnt been out of the nursery and has been with its mom and littermates till now. So the first thing to remember is to make the pup feel safe. This is done by NOT taking him out of your home at first, Not calling all family and friends to see it(I know its hard). But give your puppy a few days to learn where it will be living and with whom. This will establish the bond you need to make it feel secure.Remember, even though your chihuahua is tiny ,it has been bred down from a wolf and still wants to feel like part of your pack. I also recommend letting the pup sleep on your lap in a chair for security at first. Its not recommended to sleep with your puppy in a bed at first. This could ruin his training by teaching him to make on your bed, accidents quickly become habits ,and also the pup can be injured by falling off the bed or you can injure a tiny one in your sleep. Sleeping on a low couch or matress on the floor is an excellent idea for bonding ,and he will let you know when he has to get down. Its very unlikely he will make on you, ,put him immediatly to his paper when he wakes .You can also put a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel or a ticking clock for the first night in the pen with your pup.Remember especially the first night , your pup will feel alone and lost , so you must make him feel secure . Crying and feeling lost is a very stressful energy burning situation for your tiny chihuahua as is keeping warm, he is no longer laying in a pile of brother s sisters and friends. His little body also has the burden of keeping itself warm, another stress for him so keep him warm, do not over heat. Never ever use an electric heating pad, they overheat, which can quickly become fatal and also is very dehydrating . Electric cords are a no no in a puppy bed, so use the hot water bottle,he will snuggle against it and also be able to move away should he feel overheated ,
CONFINEMENT IS ESSENTIAL TO TRAINING
2 If you have the room we recommend the use of a SUperXplayard , sold in toys r us its called an x yard, its made of hard plastic is about 3 feet high and can be an excellent way to train the pup.(they cost around 60 dollars), If you dont have room , you can simply find an enclosed area , like a small bathroom or small kitchen , and close it off.Confinement is very important for trianing .Within this area you will place a small crate or bed , wee wee pads or newspaper (wee wee pads are good because they have a plastic bottom like a diaper and wont allow urine to reach the floor . but newspaper will do as some pups find the wee pads fun to play with
(Later on, the pup can be gradually litter trained by putting his paper or pad inside the litter box in his usual spot ,and gradually adding a little litter till he is finally littertrained. )
So now that you have made a confined area,( HIs/her space) ,you place his bed(crate with blanket, on one end (his bedrom , safeplace, den) , his "Bathroom" on the opposite end and somewhere in the middle (but not near the paper area ) you will place his food and water .Instinctually they do not want want to dirty their bed area or thier food area, so they naturally use thier paper/weewee pad area. Please dont lock the puppy in a crate this is not crate training, its cruel. Crates can be used later after he is totally trained to use his paper , when you sleep , he can be put in his crate, he has slept in it through his paper training so he feels safe inside it, BUT the first thing in the morning when you wake up , let him out to his paper or take him outside , as soon as he hears you awaken (especially when hes a baby , ) he will have to make , puppies get excited when you wake up, So please dont think that after your shower hell be waiting , he may not be able to , and he may have an accident in his crate, THis would be your fault NOt his. so remember after the papertraining, he can sleep in a crate while you sleep so there will be no surprises when you wake up.Do not crate these animals all day, it is cruel. These are very intelligent animals and once the habitis formed to do what is expected , they will be happy to please thier owner.BUT if the owner allows too much freedom , the pup will get into the" Habit "of doing his thing, in a well hidden place( so as not to mess up your home).this can be a habit, dont allow this to happen. If you give him too much freedom at first , you can end up with a dog that will make you miserable and it will be Your fault. THE SAD FACT IS MOST OF THE UNFORTUNATE DOGS IN THE SHELTERS ARE THERE BECAUSE THEY WERENT PROPERLY TRAINED , NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE BAD OR STUPID,ONCE THOSE HABITS ARE FORMED IT BECOMES HARD TO CHANGE. Remember if you have a problem after using this method email me
If youre puppy is without food for a long period , several hours is long to them , and is becoming hypoglycemic, he will
appear tired , refuse food and get worse and worse, so if you think your pup isnt acting as he should , give him a mouthful of
nutrical ,sugar or honey , that should bring him back to normal, Please always remember to have a supply of food, which his
will convert to sugar that he needs for energy. If you see him using alot of energy , make sure he eats to replenish himself.
Crying and feeling lost as will happen before they are acccustomed to your new home is very stressful and uses tremendous
of their energy as does keeping warm , soooooooooo be sure to keep them warm and secure the first night , If you have to
on the floor or low couch with the pup till he or she knows the home is safe and he is welcomed there and not simply lost or
from me or his mom. This is an intelligent thinking being, try to keep its stress to a minimum the first few weeks , keep it warm ,
quiet, and secure dont travel about or leave it allone till it has adapted to its new home, once it has adapted to your home, then
pup can be taught to sleep in its own bed , The stress of being all alone in a strange place the first night may cause seperation
anxiety later on, Sooo first make it feel at home, then later teach it the rules of the home. The old fashioned way of thinking,
let it cry all night is slightly off ,to get off to a good pysical and emotional start with your pup , bond with it first ,Teach it that
it is safe and home.

FEEDING YOUR NEW PUPPY
FEEDING YOUR NEW PUPPY
We offer FREE training , health and nutrition advice for the life of your pup , we never want to see one of our pups end up to be unwanted and will always take a dog back , or help you place it if you cannot keep it.
YOUR puppy is to have access to a bowl of dry food EUKANUBA SMALLBREED PUPPY and Water at all times, we recommend putting a spoon of brown sugar into the drinking water ,not a specific scientific amount but a small spoon in a small bowl , will help keep him healthy. Please dont use enough to make the water very sweet. Eukanuba smallbreed puppy is tiny concentrated very nutritious ,dogfood specially formulated for little pups like these .Your puppy will nibble all day long, he will not get fat in most cases ,if he does however, email me and well figure out the problem .Larger foods can choke your pup.to death
Never Ever bottle feed your pup it is very easy to give too much liquid and choke (aspirate the pup causing pnuemonia, ) No eye droppers of any kind,
For the first week We now suggest a diet of Lowfat live culture yogurt (room temp) vanilla ,mixed with some sugar, and dry eukanuba smallbreed puppy. along with lean chicken or turkey. Once the pup is no longer stressed by his new situation, and is pooping Cigars (tiny ones ) , you can begin the ricotta as well. The reason for this is, Chihuahuas and other tiny breeds , become chilled or stressed easily, this will sometimes upset the natural balance of good and bad bacteria in the intestine, (flora and fauna) this unbalance makes the bad bacteria thrive, causing a toxic effect on the pup. It is therefore very important to keep him warm,And stay away from fatty foods for the first week . Do not take a pup under 6 months out in the cold at all unless it is a vet visit or other important reason, Every chill is bad on them. Once a chihuahua reaches about 6 months old it is one of the hardiest dogs and the longest lived breed, However a tiny chihuahua does not do well being chilled especially the babies, So the live culture yougurt will replace some of the good bacteria and keep him balanced until he is secure in his new home and completly stable and balanced, Remember , warm secure, and well fed, thats what he has to be in the beggining , Live culture lowfat yogurt ,water with sugar, and lean chicken or turkey week 1 , week 2 , ricotta eukanuba, sugar water, meats cheeses and nutrical when the stool is normal .
In addition to the dry food, I recommend Nutrical 1 or 2 times a day just abo ut a peanut size amount, and I always give the pups a little before I go out for a few hours , to make sure they dont become hypoglycemic .(THis is for after the second week,) the first week home we dont want to feed nutrical or anything fatty as that feeds and blooms the bad bacteria.
The only time you leave your puppy without food is during the hours you sleep, but if he is in his pen you can leave the food and water .
In addition to the dry, you can feed your puppy any meats or cheeses or even a little scrambled eggs.Ricotta cheese is very good for new babies .A little too fattening for adults. We give our dogs sliced Turkey , roast beef , or ham , a slice is a meal to some of them. It is better than canned food as it is not full of fillers and water. My dogs love velveeta cheese .in addition to this we do give table scraps, but NO POTATOES OR CHOCOLATE , . as these are very bad for your dog, and just a few dark choclate chips can cause severe illness or death in a tiny pup. Also read grapes and raisins are really bad.

BREEDERS : PLEASE BE AWARE AND READ !!
BREEDERS : PLEASE BE AWARE AND READ !!
I just received another very sad letter fom a lady named Melissa Manfre from New Jersey.1/ 7 /04
She purchased a pup from a petstore on christmas eve. (a bad time to bring a pup home anyway).
The pup was very cute, a black and white , and the family lovingly bought her sweaters and toys. The family pet dober man also loved her.
within a few days the pup seemd to be very sick and she was taken into the vet. But sadly the new pup, (who was allready loved by this wonderful, well meaning family) , had PArvo.
She died. They almost all do, very quickly, days after they are purchased seemingly normal and healthy. Why??
if you have read my warnings parvo is a virus ,,a very resiliant virus. once in a petstore, it is easily and readily spread ,and perpetuates itself on all incoming pups.Sick ones are moved to back rooms to avoid being seen , The petstore does not stop the sales of their pups, it continues to sell.
They cross their fingers and pray for the sake of profit, that the pup will survive or the new ones they sell go home and "missed contracting it". Not caring about the hearts of the family who trustingly and lovingly took the pup home.OR THE PUPS!
So now Melissas pup is dead , her children are very sad, and she cannot purchase another for at least 6 months, as PArvo IS in her home! Like a cold virus, and if she were to bring one home from a good breeder it may catch the germ that now resides in her house.
The family (and even the family dog, who by now has been exposed to Parvo) are all heartbroken and will remember this next christmas im sure. The beautiful little black and white pup is dead. Her mom suffered in a cage some where to have her.. probably fed the cheapest dogfood money can buy, probably not enough, and is going to go through all that again, So the "breeder" can profit once again when he harvests the pups from his chicken wire cages. The petstore will undoubtedly sell more this week.. infected Im sure. Like little time bombs who will go to their new homes and break hearts when they begin to get sick from the virus incubating in their system , while they sit so cute,,so innocent in their petstore cage.
ILl say it again . NO reputable caring breeder sells to petstores! No if ,and or buts!
Any pup you see in a petstore is not there from a loving caring breeder !, They are born in chicken wire cages in Dirty sheds across the country in the midwest especially. They are treated as a good, and if you buy one , You are supporting this whole system. If you buy from a petstore your money , pays the petstore, who pays a small fee to the uncaring breeding facility, who then has enough to carry on to do it again, often times, they buy any dog purebred (or not) but close enough to look like the breed, Or buy the worst speciman of the breed and breed it, No regard to vaccines or nutrition or socialization, No regard to the well being of the mother, or the pup. These breeders buy very poor quality Akc pups as some petstores boast AKC pups! however Akc is simply a registry and while there is high end Akc, there is also very low end, There are pups bred so poorly there are genetic faults, and terrible health problems stemming from poor nutrition and neglect and poor uncaring selection of breeding animals, no regard to quality, Skimping all the way from shots to breeding stock, to increase the profit,
When you buy a pup from us , it will not be carrying parvo, it will have been cared for in the ultimate way, No regard to expenese, fed nothing but the best and given every bit of love and comfort possible, Look at our dogs, you can certainly see they are happy, just by the looks on thier faces. We do this all the right way, It is alot of work and tremendous expense. and commitment. We love our dogs, and enjoy placing them in fine homes and take great pride and pleasure in our testimonials, We have worked very hard and Our family is very dedicated to doing this all in the right way, So that you will take home a new family member who will bring you close to 20 years of happiness, instead of 1 week of a broken heart. We ask you all to feel sorry for the pup in the petstore, but do not rescue it by purchasing it , for if you do it wil insure that its mom will do this all agian and thats its brothers and sisters to come will suffer this same fate. No matter how cute he is, if you buy him, another sad pup will sit in that window. to replace him . Please think with your head and not your heart, or it might also be yours broken Like Melissa and her family ,and the many others who have written to me ,this same sad story in the past.BUy your pups from caring reputable experienced breeders who offer lifetime support and who are experts in their breed , Sorry again for blurting this all out but these letters do upset me everytime,
I just got a second sad letter from a lady in long island , She purchased her pup froma petstore in brooklyn NY , (it was shipped via a broker ) from a breeder in oklahoma,. Again pup came home sick and died shorlty thereafter, I suspect with this one ,from what i have heard that thius pup was stressed due to be trucked up here from oklahoma, and began to get unbalanced, and the vet involved saw pnuemonia , and may have been too late to save the pup or did not treat with cefa drop , which is the correct medication for this, Once unbalanced these pups die rapidly, Imagine, its january 2005 , i have heard from 2 people who have lost their pups from petstores, Imagine how many across the country, how many pups are born , how many mother dogs suffer in dirty cramped , uncomfortable wire cages, to produce them, and who are still there producing more,
Please do not buy your pup from a petstore, if you do , you are enabling the puppy mills, and perpetuatuing this suffering,
the short miserable life of these two pups should serve as a reminder to everyone , Do not buy a pup from a petstore, you risk your heart being broken and your money being lost, Ill Repeat,, No caring Breeder ever sells to a petstore, I know if my pups spent one night in a petstore , i would be heartsick and so i will make sure it will not ever happen to one of mine,Petstore pups come from uncaring breeders and dirty chicken wire cages in climates where no money is spent on care or comfort to the dam, Please dont buy a petstore pup out of pity ,, if you pity it ,, leave it there, or else it will be replaced by another suffering family of dogs, who arent vaccinated or cared for properly this is wh yso many petstore pups die within the first weeks of going home, and NONE of ours have ever died after going home,
The suffering these two ladies , Michelle from NJ and Melissa from Li NY and the two pups who they fell in love with and lost so quickly, should serve as a very strong reminder of the suffering that goes on across the country on a wde scale, if i heard about two pups Imagine how many more, how many breeds , how many pups, have died, in the last few weeks and days, NO caring breeder sells to petstores they are trucked here like goldfish and die without the world knowing ,, just the poor people who had their hearts broken,
We stand behind our Chihuaha pups and have never sold one who went home and died, We sell only chihuahuas , We are aviaible for the life of your dog, for advice, anytime it is needed, We do care very much for our pups, and where they end up, Were always here if you need us and i apreciate your taking the time to read this page, , Chris
ROUTINE VACCINATIONS ARE OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE AND WILL SAVE YOUR PUPPY'S LIFE SHOULD IT BE EXPOSED TO A DEADLY VIRUS!
HEARTWORM PREVENTION IS VERY IMPORTANT AS THE BITE OF A SINGLE MOUSQUITO CAN / WILL INFECT YOU DOG'S BLOODSTREAM WITH THE EGGS OF A SPAGHETTI LIKE WORM THAT FEED ON THE HEART. ASK YOUR VET ! ALL DOGS AND CATS SHOULD BE ON HEARTGAURD OR SOME OTHER FORM OF HEARTWORM PREVENTION, THROUGHOUT THEIR LIFE , USUALLY SOLD TO YOU BY YOUR VETERINARIAN AS A ONCE A MONTH OR ONCE EVERY THREE MONTH PILL .. VERY VERY IMPORTANT FOR ALL DOGS! yOU CAN BUY A TWO YEARS SUPPLY AT YOUR VETS,.
" I make no apologies for my fast bad typing or bad grammer............... its just me ! " C.H.
Be careful when you walk, they sometimes get underfoot. Be sure to remember they are sleeping on your lap or you may forget they are there and drop them when you stand. Beware of closing doors. Beware of open doors, always assume they will run out ,A closing door can and will mean certain death ..They aren’t streetwise ,Never ever walk them with out a leash , even the best trained dog is still a dog, so be careful,. Be careful of closing reclining chairs and fold away beds , I’ve heard some sad stories .Be careful of bathtubs ,Jacuzzis swimming pools,, as a CHIHUAHUA may walk on the cover or fall in, buckets of water /and any water situation, , Be careful of collars and harnesses that can catch on things and choke or that can slip off of a stubborn backing up chihuahua . I find that if a chi gets loose , don’t chase them or they may think its a game . Most won't run but some will , be calm ,.getting upset will make the situation worse.
Have the # of a good emergency vet in case of an accident and have benadryl baby , Don’t let strangers hold them while standing, I’ve seen nervous dogs jump .Make a rule when children visit, that they have to sit on the floor to play with your pup, so no accidents can happen. Make sure your pup is in the house when you go to bed,. I heard a sad story recently of one freezing to death when a child let her out without the parents knowledge. So be careful, they are small and do silly things. Remember that Big dogs see another dog when they look at your little CHIHUAHUA The same issues will apply , like 2 males who want to fight, A big dog just sees another dog, Guess who’s going to win, even though the chihuahua will be fearsome or playful with big dogs. He is considered by most other dogs (no matter what size) to be just another dog. Don’t allow too much jumping , as it can injure their legs. .Never leave your chihuahua alone in a car, .Never leave your chihuahua out where it can be stolen. by people or predators including LARGE DOGS ,CAYOTES, EAGLES hawks and owls ,Be careful of opened windows, Be aware of the houseplants you own some are toxic. Never leave them in your car they can bake in minutes or be stolen .Make sure your guests are careful to close doors ..Be careful !!!!!!! They become like family members so take precautions.
Keep away from pet stores and other puppy places when they are younger than 6 months .or they can catch a deadly virus, even from healthy looking dogs .Be sure to keep up with vaccinations and hold your pup on your lap at the vets, there are germs like Parvo virus deadly to pups there..
try not to touch things , and wash up and bathe your dog after a vet visit.
And please always have identification on your dog , be it a tag or microchip, no one who looses a pet ever plans or expects it .MOST IMPORTANLY ....BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU SIT DOWN. and be aware new pups want to be with you and sometimes literally get underfoot. Keep out of pet stores, Do not go to puppy classes as viruses are easily spread there. Vaccinations or not,
A tiny 1/4 teaspoon of sugar added to a bowl of drinking water is enough otherwise you will upset the natural sugar balance of the body,, Keep it very slight just a sprinkle and only when advised to do so by the breeeder many larger pups do not need it, and too much is not good No sugar is needed after 5 months,

DO not give your dog treats shaped and flavored like meat,,, give real meat, a better treat is a slcice of turkey or raost beef, Those bacon looking mixtures of chemicals are too big and very bad for chihuahuas too many chemicals , colorants fake odors and preservatives, My dogs wont eat them , Meat real meat or cheese is much much better i like to feed mine squirt cheese just hold the can over them and squirt just a little , they wil preform for it and when they touch it it comes off easily , just be sure to mark the can as theirs so no one eats it after
Breeders please stop the spread of this horrible virus by using Neopar there are two deadly strains of parvo and most 5in one or or any combo shots only have 1 strain, leaving your pups virtually 50 percent unprotected .
Do not vaccinate for Leptospirosis many chihuahuas have bad or deadly reactions and the risks of this( rat carried) virus is far less than the risk from the vaccine itself .
Also Carona virus vaccine is not needed, As there has not been a case in years .
RABIES... please give 1/2 dose rabies vaccine is very hard on chihuahua pups the same dose is given to 220 lb dogs , So please ask you vet to wait till your chihuahua is over 8 months old and to give 1/2 a dose, It wil create the titer needed for immunity If your vet insists on a full shot than ask him to break it into two doese and take the second dose 3 weeks later, . This will create the same Rabies titer without the risks of toxic reactions such as lumps tumors and neoplasms at the site of the vaccination. In other words doing it this way is more tolerated by your tiny dogs immune system,

Please read about neopar if you breed dogs to eradicate parvovirus, most combination vaccines protect you from only one strain of parvo leaving your pup open to strain B parvo is deadly ......so please read about neopar,
Heartwrom is caused by a single mousquito bite .Your dogs heart becomes home to rather large spaghetti like worms, ask your vet for prevention medication at your first visit,

THE FOLLOWING ARE POISONOUS TO YOUR PET!:
NEVER EVER give Tylenol (toxic to liver) or ibuprofen (Nuprin, Motrin, Advil, etc.). Ibuprofen is very toxic and fatal to dogs at low doses. Only aspirin is safe for dogs, and buffered aspirin or ascriptin is preferred to minimize stomach upset.
IN Memory of Loganpassed away text.
THE IMPORTANCE OF CLEAN TEETH , Tarter builds that yellowy brown crusty stuff on the dogs teeth , The teeth themselves are usually
white and perfect underneath, That tarter will cause gum infections and a bacteria that can and will cause infection around the heart .
Usually the dog will have unusually smelly breath , With the economy so bad some people cannot afford regular dental scaling done by the vet,
To prevent this tragic problem with your dog, take the following steps.
Feed a good quality dry food like eukanuba regularly , feed miilkbone brand dog biscuits , they contain a grit that helps keep this tarter down ,
brushing does not remove the tarter if it is built up this tarter will simply pluck right off and reveal a healthy tooth under it ,
you can do this yourself with a dental descaler , you can buy online, I do my dogs once a month when I do the heartworm prevention.
if you need help email me,
remember it takes a few seconds to pluck the tarter off and if left on it can infect the gums and spread to the heart which can eventually lead to death ,
